It's actually squirrel power, not spider power, but it is true that the less time I spend basking under your sun, the more my powers diminish.

Comments screened, and anonymous questions should work.  I won't identify you unless you want to be identified.

[EDIT: redacted.  Comments are screened.  I still have no idea how to enable anonymous posting.]

Apparently everyone I know (I guess this is a meme, so duh) is passing around a meme "where everyone leaves screened comments with what they want to say to to the poster but haven't yet for whatever reason".  I jump on the bandwagon too.  "So! Tell me anything you want me to know - about me, about you, about your mom, whatever you like."

Anonymous comments are enabled*, and everything is screened. Tell me something you want to tell me, anonymously or not. If you say you want me to unscreen, I will, happily.

Then do the same, and I will tell you something!

* I think anonymous comments are enabled.  Will test.  if they aren't, might need a hint as to how to enable them.
** Nope, they are not.  How can I enable them just for this entry?  It's readable by everyone...

I desperately want to try one of these.  Anyone got any ideas how to get my hands on one?  Anyone tried one?

I ask, because after reading this article, I wonder whether I should reevaluate my pasta-buying strategies.

May. 11th, 2009 @ 04:42 pm farmer's market bounty/mystery
Current Mood: curiouscurious
A few weeks ago, I bought green pod-like things from one of the Alemany market vendors, who was unable to tell me what it was.  On the bag was a piece of paper on which was written calamansi (on one side) and rabano (Spanish for radish) on the other.  They clearly worked calamansi, but they sure didn't seem to be radishes.  I stir-fried them, and they were tasty (with a taste reminiscent of radish), but forgot to take photos.

This week, another vendor had them, still attached to the stalks.  She claimed they were daikon pods, or something like that.  I've looked online, and can't find anything to match them (daikon leaves look very different, as do daikon shoots).  Anyone know what this might be?

I almost don't know whether to eat these or display them in a vase:

the camera doesn't always do what I expectCollapse )

Another attempt (from last week, I'm behind on my posts) to make the Spicy Sichuan/Hunan-ish Crab (Xiang La Xie 香辣蟹).  The batter held up this time, due to some techniques we learned from a fellow climber/foodie (namely, double-breading the crab, and using an egg wash).  However, the breading itself wasn't spicy.  Next time, will have to try that.  Note that yet again, I failed to take pictures before we fell upon the crabs and devoured them.

I don't have a house I can put these in, but if I did, I would certainly be considering them.
